For one month in late 2015, at Ermont-Eaubonne railway station in Ile-de-France, travelers became part of a surprising experiment: an installation composed of hourglasses that reacted to their movements, inviting travelers to take a break in their daily commute to consider the acceleration of daily life. A look at Texel, an experimental project at the crossroads of interactive art and the humanities.
Artist Swann Thommen recorded the sounds of a typical day for six inhabitants of Zurich and Geneva living in downtown or peri-urban areas. He also equipped with a GPS system in order to track their movements. From this were born six six-minute montages, as well as a set of maps, charts and diagrams that visually and acoustically reveal a variety of mobile lifestyles.
The Mobile Lives Forum has commissioned Ai Weiwei to observe and report on the refugee crisis, paying particular attention to how people use their smartphones. New graphic notes (photos and videos), guided tours and analyses will be published on the Forum’s website throughout this year-long project.
